Menus use fruit and veg from the pub’s own gardens
T he Packhorse Inn is a traditional Somerset cider house in the beautiful village of Southstoke, about four miles from the centre of Bath. Dating back to the 16th century, the pub has a beautiful beer garden with glorious views, while the interior remains simple and authentic. This is a pub, not a restaurant within a pub, and all are warmly welcomed, whether or not you wish to eat.
Under new ownership for the past year, the menu is deliberately kept short and simple, with a focus on traditional pub food done well. The menu changes on a monthly basis to make the most of the best seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, including fruits and vegetables from the pub’s own gardens. During lunchtimes in summer months, bar snacks
are also available alongside the full menu.
At weekends the menu’s complemented by a range of specials. This, combined with a good selection of wines and ciders (and real ales that recently received the Cask Marque seal of approval), makes the Packhorse an excellent choice for relaxed dining. Booking is strongly advised.
Rumour has it that a ghost stalks the pub, and many unexplained and strange happenings have been reported over the years. The jury’s still out as to whether these sightings are genuine, or enhanced by the consumption of several pints of the pub’s traditional cider… |
