Local and sustainable are the key here
At River Cottage they’re doing their best to look after the environment… It’s not easy and there’s always room for improvement! In this new venture, everything has been carefully chosen to cause as little impact to the environment as possible, from fresh local food and Fairtrade dry goods to furniture that’s recycled or made locally from wood certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council, and even down to the solvent-free paints used in the design of the Canteen.
Local and sustainable are the key here. Meats come from within 55 miles of the Canteen, seasonal fruit and veg are also local and, if they can get it, organic, too. Imported fruit such as, bananas, avocados and citrus fruit are either organic or Fairtrade, or both. Their fish is caught in the West Country using methods sympathetic to the environment. All this means that you can enjoy great-tasting food with a clear conscience.
With the successful Axminster Canteen and Park Farm HQ under their belts, the company intend carrying the River Cottage ethos to Bath. And with Bath fast becoming a centre
for food lovers, it’s a great time to show people that there are those who put a high value on what they eat, and care about where it’s come from and how it has lived. |
